The company is currently in the process of updating all their components to be ROHS compliant. As we know RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances and this directive says that all member states shall ensure that lead, mercury, halogenated flame-retardants and other hazardous substances are phased out by July 1, 2006.

A good idea would be to have a component attribute associated with all components stating that the component is RoHS compliant or not. This has been done for this particular example so lets look at a way we can check existing designs to see if all the components in the design have been updated.

  1. Using the Demo_U.pcb file from the previous exercise, go to the Design Manager.
  2. In the Component section, click Customize. Check on the ROHS Compliant column (available as there are components on the design with this attribute attached) and click OK.
  3. If the component is RoHS compliant it has a True attribute, if not a False attribute. The column header to sort the column. There are 3, shift click to select them then right click to show a list of options. Choose highlight.

The next step now is to take an action on this. We can create a report which can be saved for or sent to the relevant person.

  1. Select File Reports. Uncheck all reports apart from Attributes. Click on the report name to enable the Customize button. Then click Customize and go to the Selection tab and set up as follows:(ROHS Compliant = False).

  2. Click OK. Then click Generate when back at the File Reports dialog.

Return to the exercise index. Proceed to the next exercise.
