You have been working on a design for the past 6 weeks. It is almost complete, but you want to check that changes made to the component library do not critically impact your design.

In this Exercise, you will learn how to generate a quick report of all components that have been updated since you loaded the netlist. With the component update report, you can easily verify that all of your design components are current. To generate a report of component library changes:

  • Query the library for a ModifyDate attribute later than the date the components were placed on the design.
  • Use the Report command to list these updated components.

Assume that your calendar indicates the netlist was loaded and most components were placed on August 16th. The steps to report on library changes after this date will be detailed below.

To query a library for a ModifyDate after August 16:

  1. Select the ALE_TUTOR.LIB library in the Source Browser tree and choose the right mouse command Query. The Query dialog appears.
  2. Set all and scroll down the list to find the ModifyDate attribute.
  3. In the Criteria (And) column, use the pick list to select the operator. Type August 16,2005 after the operator. The Query dialog appears as follows:

  4. Click Query. All components in the library modified on or after June 16th, 2005 will appear in the Query Results Viewer.

Report on Updated Components

You can generate a report on these updated components. This report can be easily compared with a Bill of Materials from your design. You can determine which attribute changes, if any, impact your final board design.

  1. From the Query Results Viewer, choose the Table >> Report command.
  2. Click the Report radio button in the Style Format box.
  3. Type in a header, footer, and output file name. Enable all the check boxes in the Page Format box, as well as the Screen button in the Output Destination box. Click OK. The file will load into a text file viewer.
